The ladder trail

In the footsteps of a shepherd

Take advantage of a gourmet getaway in Roquefort to climb the Combalou plateau, a classic hike in the area!

The origins of

ladder path

For much of the year, the ewes grazed on the Combalou plateau 5 km above Roquefort. A farm employee brought the shepherd his daily meal. To do so, he took a shortcut over scree and along a cliff equipped with two ladders. Hence the name of this hike. Today, the path has been slightly modified and now takes the form of a staircase.

Let’s go!

Follow the signposted path, pass the scree, reach and admire the perforated rock. Climb the famous ladder to the plateau du Combalou. Enjoy the vast panorama before you!

Then join the antennas and pause at La Jasse (dry-stone sheepfold). Walk along the edge of the plateau towards the pine forest. Enjoy the shade of the pines for a picnic or snack! Then descend to the Col des Aiguières. Head towards Roquefort and pass under a large fault as far as the Chapelle Saint-Pierre. Take the stairs up to the orientation table. The end of the hike is a leisurely descent.

Roquefort-sur-Soulzon
