Roquesaltes, Rajal del Gorp... other rocky chaos

Hike and play in natural mazes

A number of rocky outcrops mark the landscape here and there, emerging from the boxwood and pine trees in the heart of Aveyron’s unspoilt countryside.

Nature puts on a show!

Arches, dungeons dozens of meters high, silhouettes, faces… chaos is full of curiosities to be discovered on a short stroll or a long, challenging hike. A source of inspiration or simply tranquillity for adults, they are also great playgrounds for children… a great way to spend a day. Must-see hiking spots!

Chaos rocheux du Larzac, Le Rajal del Gorp

Rajal, in Occitan, means “rocky ravine”. The Rajal del Gorp (raven) is a shallow ravine, one of the countless dry valleys found on the Causse du Larzac. A veritable labyrinth of phantasmagorically shaped stones, adults draw energy from the rock, while children have a field day in this maze of rocks, a veritable life-size game of hide-and-seek.

Les “quilles” du Causse Noir, Roques-Altes

Another Causse and another atmosphere with the Roques-Altes site: the “Roches Hautes” of the Causse Noir near the rocky Chaos of Montpellier-le-Vieux. These 25m-high boulders form a natural fortress. Both imposing and majestic, you’ll soon feel very small next to them. Set off on foot or mountain bike, taking care to respect the dry grasslands that characterize the site and are home to a fragile fauna and flora. And for lovers of old stones, the site is home to an old farmhouse with typical Caussenarde architecture.

.

Good to know: These natural environments are fragile and must be respected.
