Routes suitable for beginners

Introduction to climbing

Experience the joys of family climbing, easily accessible, just for the pleasure of spending quality time together at the foot of the cliffs.

Find the right climbing spot

to your desires

The pleasure of a short climbing outing with your tribe, without a long approach walk and where there’s something for everyone… That’s also what climbing around Millau is all about!

The sectors here are sufficiently numerous and varied. Introductory sites, big easy routes suitable for a family climbing session.

But then… where do you find these little corners where it’s so good to climb all together?

Family climbing

Gorges du Tarn

Close to Le Rozier, the Muse area is probably the most suitable for a family outing. Easy to find, parking and a few minutes’ approach walk. There’s plenty of shade and short routes, mainly between 4 and 6. A small site that can pleasantly occupy a half-day or two. On the way back, the whole family can enjoy a swim at the nearby Rozier beach.

Climbing with your tribe

Jonte gorges

Some introductory sectors and some superb easy big routes: overall, the approach walk (30 minutes or more) is often a bit steep, and can make the family outing more muscular if you do it with little ones.

However, the Reverend sector offers a nice potential after only a big quarter-hour walk.

Boffi and Laumet

Dourbie gorges

A very pleasant, shady site, the Boffi offers some very nice routes in all grades: from 4 to 8, almost side by side! A day trip is recommended, to make the most of the long approach walk with young children (30 to 40 minutes, with some steep sections). The foot of the routes is very safe, and the two large bays (rock shelters) are perfect for a siesta or picnic.

The Laumet site is the closest to Millau, on the way to the Gorges de la Dourbie, an ideal spot for beginners and families

Other sites around Millau

More confidential but particularly suitable for families, the site d’escalade de Malaspes is on the roadside just outside the village of Lapanouse de Cernon. With no approach steps, shaded and very quiet, easy and medium routes well equipped for a range of different heights and ratings.
