La Dourbie climbing sitesA gigantic canyon radically carved out between the Causse Noir and the Larzac, the Dourbie offers two major sites, Boffi and Cantobre, which vie for fame. A third site, Laumet, more recently equipped, offers proximity and ease of access.
Le Boffi
the giant of the gorgeVisible from the town, just 3 km away as the vultures fly, the Boffi cliffs dominate the small village of Le Monna.
However, access is recommended from above, on the route du Causse Noir. Just follow the signs, via the D110 towards Montpellier-le-Vieux, at the Cureplat bridge, which marks the confluence of the Tarn and Dourbie rivers. The site is also home to a very fine via ferrata, very well signposted…
At Le Boffi, in addition to the panorama, you’ll find some great routes, steep on well honeycombed rock and all grip…
A dozen sectors for around 160 routes on exceptional limestone! From 4 sup to 9a, the site attracts top-level competitions.
Cantobre
The wave
No surfers here! But a reference to this astonishing cliff, outrageously domed and smooth as can be…
Cantobre is the name of the site but also that of the village facing it. Perched on its stone fortress at the confluence of the Dourbie and Trévezel rivers. Here, the routes are short and powerful, on rock with incredible holes.
Cantobre is the domain of the enervés, the mutants who warm up in the 7C before making their cross on one of the few 8a or 8b that populate the sector…
In particular that of “Turbulence”. Don’t worry, there are also a few easier routes, but overall, Cantobre gets your fingers hot!
Laumet
the latestIt was created to offer a local site, easily accessible from Millau (15 minutes by car), site and parking well signposted. You can’t miss it!
5 to 10 minutes’ approach walk and you’re ready to get out your quickdraws and play quietly on one of the 50 routes in the area, in one or two pitches max.
Climbing
15 min from MillauClimbing facilities in the Gorges de la Dourbie came on stream later than on the Jonte or the Tarn. Since then, it has quickly caught up with the times and offers climbing that’s just as interesting as its bigger sisters, with the added bonus of being close to Millau. La Dourbie is a must for any visiting climber who wants to get a feel for the dolomite of the Causse Noir.
