In search of winding roads

Top curves

This motorcycle itinerary on the Causse Noir and Jonte gorges offers a succession of winding roads.

You can also read this tour as a Top of beautiful curvy roads, to be included in one of your motorcycle tours.

The relief of the Grands Causses is made up of high plateaus and deep gorges. To cross them, you have to go up, down, up again, down again…

These aren’t necessarily the best-known, but they’re the most beautiful in my eyes, little-traveled to make the most of the sensations of the bends and the panoramas.

In order of the circuit:

1-Montée du Causse Noir

Departing from Millau, the ascent of the Pouncho d’Agast, a rocky bar overlooking the town, offers breathtaking views of the town of Millau and the famous Millau Viaduct. The morning light is exceptional. At the top, take a few minutes to head right for the paragliding and hang-gliding take-off area. The view is simply splendid, and the spectacle of multicolored sails twirling through the air is always spectacular.

2-Descent to Peyreleau

In a few wide switchbacks, this fairly short descent opens onto the Jonte and Tarn Gorges, overlooking the villages of Peyreleau and Le Rozier.

A first view of the straight cliffs of the gorges and their enfilade…

3-Montée du Truel to St-Pierre des Tripiers

Speed lovers, move on. If you’re looking for adrenalin, this is the place! A “mountain” road, narrow and winding, where the permanent escarpments offer breathtaking views of the Jonte Gorges. A must for the locals, and as sensational as it gets.

4-Descent to La Malène

A touch of San Francisco’s Lombard Street for this plunge into the heart of the Gorges du Tarn. The start is a cliffside route with spectacular views over the Gorges and La Malène, a semi-troglodytic village coiled in the low cliffs of the gorges.

The end of the descent is ideal for wearing out the edge of your motorcycle tires: a succession of tight laces between parapet and cliff. A real biker’s delight!

Bruno’s tip – Don’t forget your on-board camera, this is THE motorcycle circuit you won’t want to miss… and the buzz!

5-Montée des Vignes at Point Sublime

A pass reminiscent of the high mountains. A very popular route for cyclists (the bends are signposted), it hugs the slopes of the Gorges du Tarn, between cliffs on one side and breathtaking panoramas on the other! The road here is wide, making it easy to take corners on the bike. At the summit, the Point Sublime lookout. Can you describe it? No need – the name says it all!

6-Descente sur Boyne

Please note our pronunciation. Boyne is pronounced Boïne and not Boine, miladiou!”
This is the Tarn Valley, with its vineyards, orchards, alfalfa fields and stone cabanes (on the roadside), which are in fact ancient semi-troglodytic wine cellars.

Open the helmet or visor, the country scents are often awakened. The road is restful and waltzes from curves to wide laces.

V to all!”
